Understanding Line Widths

Line width is an entity property, like color and layer information. As such, the current line width is displayed on the Status Bar, labeled with the tag "W:". All new entities will be created with the current line width. Line widths are always expressed in terms of the current drawing units.

If the line width is 0 (zero), the entity will display in the usual one pixel width, or be completely filled, depending on whether it is open or closed.

You change the color of line’s fill style different from the defining line. Use the Change-Interior Color to set the secondary color.

If the line width is greater than than 0, it will draw with the entity’s fill style. New entities with line width will fill with the current fill style as displayed on the Status Bar. Line widths scale up or down depending upon your zoom factor, to the minimum one pixel display width.

If you wish to draw filled entities, set a current fill style and use a 0.0 width. If you assign a line width to a polygon, the polygon will be hollow and the line creating the polygon will be filled to the specified width. For instance, if you draw a polygon with a width of 0.25, then CC3 will draw the polygon path with a 0.25 width and fill only the path, not the area bounded by the polygon.

If you wish to draw filled polygons with a thick outline, use the CHANGE-PEN THICKNESS to assign a paper-scale line weight.
